Development Officer

Canines for Disabled Kids (CDK)

Founded in 1998, Canines for Disabled Kids mission is Supporting the creation of child-canine service teams to promote independence and social awareness

We do this by providing services in the following 3 areas:

Scholarships – CDK offers scholarships to help cover some of the training costs of service dogs for children who receive their dogs before they turn 18 and who work with a qualified training program. Training program qualifications are available on our website.

Educational Talks and Presentations – CDK staff and volunteers give presentations to schools, businesses, religious organizations and civic organization across the United States about service dog: what are the laws which define and governs service dogs; how to know if a service dog is right for you; what to expect from a service dog team in public; and how to obtain a service dog.

Individual assistance – CDK staff works with individuals and families members to help them determine if a service dog is the right tool for them or a loved one, staff helps them to define the trained skill or skills needed and helps them to locate the training program which can best suit their needs

Position

This part time position offers flexible hours reporting to the Executive Director (ED) and in partnership with the Special Events Coordinator will spearhead development efforts as Canines for Disabled Kids continues to grow. A new position in the organization, the Director will have the opportunity to build the development function. Some travel is possible.

Salary range and benefits

  • Salary range: $20,000 – $30,000 annual
  • Benefits: CDK currently offers 6 paid holidays to all employees.

Responsibilities

  • Increase annual revenue to $250.000 – $300,000
  • Develop and execute Canines for Disabled Kids annual fundraising plan
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Use of data in Raiser’s Edge and work with staff responsible for data entry and gift processing
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Creating and executing a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
  • Work with Special Events Coordinator on organization of special events and fundraising
  • Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Strong initiative and motivation able to work well independently and with the current team

 

Qualifications

  • BA (preferred)
  • Experience in development or business marking
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Good computer usage skills; knowledge of and experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus
  • Time management skills
